Will Wearing Designer Dresses Help you Succeed?
Do you love designer dresses, shoes and other clothing, but can’t justify the cost. A new study might just give you a fantastic excuse for treating yourself to some designer dresses and other big-name fashion.
A recent study at the Tilburg University in the Netherlands has shown that people who wear designer clothing are commonly perceived as being more capable and valuable than those who wear generic, cheaper clothes.
The researchers showed their test subjects two videos of the exact same person apply for a job. He was wearing a polo shirt in each one, but in the second clip the shirt had a designer logo on the front. In both videos, the job applicant had the same qualifications, and said the same things. However, here’s the amazing part. In the video where the man was wearing the designer shirt, he was voted “more suitable for the job” by the text subjects, and they suggested his starting salary should be nine percent higher than the wage they recommended for the generic shirt man.
The experiment was repeated once more, with the man in the videos asking for charitable donations. This time, the man in the designer shirt got twice as many donations as the plain shirt man!
Does this mean that wearing designer dresses can help you succeed in life? Perhaps that gorgeous new outfit will help you further your career!
